Jakarta (ANTARA) - Gold mining company PT J Resources Bolaang Mongondow (JRBM) won two Mining for Community Welfare (Tamasya) awards from the Directorate General of Mineral and Coal (Minerba) of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources for the performance of Community Development and Empowerment (PPM).

“This award is an appreciation from the government to mineral and coal mining companies that have upheld their commitment to carry out PPM programs well and continue to encourage them to make positive and sustainable contributions to communities around the mine,” said Deputy Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Yuliot Tanjung.

JRBM President Director Anang Rizkani Noor said in a statement in Jakarta on Wednesday that for J Resources, this award complements the appreciation for its social performance which in two consecutive years won the Subroto Award and the Sightseeing Award.

This time the committee appreciates the company's performance that has diligently taught cocoa nurseries to 110 fostered farmers.

This program is a good collaboration between the company and the farmers. The company provides expertise and intensive mentoring, and the farmers choose to spend time gaining knowledge rather than buying seedlings from outside which can be done quickly but costs more.

“The concept of sustainability is understood and applied in this program, because nursery knowledge can be applied over time and can be transmitted to other farmers,” said Anang Rizkani Noor.

This simple yet effective shoot-grafting technique has been taught since 2015. It was initially taught to 15 groups of 10 farmers each, who are now independent. It was then taught to a further 11 groups in 2023.

“The key to the success of this program is the mastery of techniques and consistency of assistance by the JRBM CSR team from the beginning of the program until now, as well as ensuring that all assisted farmers master it,” explained JRBM CSR Manager, Muh. Rudi Rumengan.
